A. For the vast majority of patients, no, but occasionally there can be some discomfort at the higher energy levels. We do several things to ensure your comfort. First, the treatment site is often numbed with a local anesthesia (field block). We also understand that you may be nervous about the procedure so we offer a fast acting sedative. During the treatment, we constantly communicate with you as the energy level is slowly increased. If it starts getting uncomfortable, we can slow the rate of increase and allow the analgesic effects of the shockwaves to set in before increasing further.
A.Unfortunately, insurance does not normally reimburse for SWT so we are strictly self-pay, although you can use your HSA or FSA. We do offer short and long term financing through CareCredit.
A. Most adults of any age can be treated with OsteoWave. Tumors in the joint being treated is a disqualifier and those on blood thinners or with blood clotting issues will need to receive clearance from their treating physician first.
